Empowering Afghan women to play an active role in peacebuilding

Feminist Peace Initiative

Twenty grassroots women activists and experienced women peace activists participated in seven online training sessions aimed at strengthening peacebuilding knowledge and skills and fostering an inclusive and supportive network of Afghan women peacebuilders. Women from different provinces across Afghanistan participated in the sessions, organised by Femina Afghanistan. We supported these sessions through our Feminist Peace Initiatives.

Belarusia: much needed conversations about peace

Feminist Peace Initiative

In May 2024, Our House, the Belarusian International Centre for Civil Initiatives based in Lithuania, organised three webinars for Belarusian women dissidents to network, engage and share on issues related to feminist peace, peacebuilding, conflict prevention, militarisation and security. A total of 53 women anonymously participated in the webinars to discuss peace, non-violence and the challenges faced by women peacebuilders in the region. This project, supported by our Feminist Peace Initiatives, helped build solidarity among the women.

Building an intersectional feminist peace movement in Thailand

Feminist Peace Initiative

Thailand’s ongoing political instability is shaped by tensions between Thailand and Cambodia, rising nationalism and the fragility of the Thai state. Various groups have attempted to communicate about and advocate for peace. But the public discourse is dominated by militarised narratives and civic space is shrinking – making the need for feminist networks to build collective responses apparent. With our Feminist Peace Initiatives, we supported a gathering of women and feminist collectives to build a solidarity movement.

Great Lakes: securing women‘s contribution to peacebuilding

Feminist Peace Initiatives

The Women’s Peace Table facilitated the collaboration between the neighbouring countries DRC, Burundi and Rwanda by facilitating dialogue between different women, including some whose husbands, children and brothers are members of armed groups.

Sudan: Strengthening women-led organisations building peace

Feminist Peace Initiative

Two workshops for 60 women peacebuilders directly affected by the armed conflict focused on strengthening their capacity to increase the visibility of their peace work and to advocate for their inclusion in peace processes. The workshops, organised by Badya Centre for Integrated Development Services, took place in Dilling, South Kordofan State, in southern Sudan in February 2025. We supported these workshops with our Feminist Peace Initiatives.

Innovation partners

With our Feminist Peace Initiatives (FPI), we support local and feminist peace initiatives and projects of our network members. The aim is to promote innovative ideas for feminist peace work quickly, in a straightforward manner and for a limited period of time. In this way, we enable network members to try out new ideas that correspond to their own priorities and those of their communities.

Bringing sparks to glow

Focus: Feminist Peace Initiatives

With the Feminist Peace Initiatives, we finance projects that arise from our network. Events organised by us or our partners provide the impetus from which new ideas emerge and are passed on. This, too, is what feminist peace work is about

News

Through our Feminist Peace Initiatives we support local, innovative and feminist peacebuilding initiatives and projects of our network members. They are a tool for promoting and advancing the “Women, Peace and Security” agenda through self-identified community needs, and allow network members to try out new ideas that match their own priorities.
