Amplifying civil society demands: Political campaigns

We launch and join political campaigns, working with like-minded organisations to advance feminist peace policy.

Swiss Security Policy Strategy

The State Secretariat for Security Policy (SEPOS) published the draft of Switzerland’s first Security Policy Strategy in December 2025. The core content of the strategy focuses on militarised security, largely omitting the social and gendered dimensions of security, as well as conflict prevention. Although the drafting process mostly excluded members from civil society, in collaboration with other like-minded Swiss civil society organisations we were able to provide constructive contributions to the public consultation, which took place between the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026.

The joint civil society demands are:

  • The final version of the Swiss Security Strategy must include prevention, the respect of international treaties and a human-centred understanding of security.

  • Swiss civil society organisations’ demands must be considered in budgeting decisions related to this strategy and Swiss civil society must be involved in the monitoring of the implementation of this strategy and in the drafting of any future security policy strategies.

In May 2026 we launched a campaign to call for SECURITY FOR ALL on our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), starting with an opinion article that was published in Swiss media. We say No to a security policy strategy that ignores more than half of the population in Switzerland and prioritises militarisation over conflict prevention, peacebuilding and sustainability.

Support from parliamentarians

We can also count on allies in parliament to support this cause. Together with seven members of the National Council, PeaceWomen Across the Globe prepared a total of ten questions for Question Time during the 2026 summer session, which were submitted on the first day of the session, 1 June 2026. The aim of these questions is for SEPOS to revise the strategy and take into account the demands set out in the questions before the Federal Council adopts it by the end of 2026.

Above all, such questions serve as a strategic tool to elicit responses from the Federal Council and to signal to it that an issue is important – ideally leading to political action.

Fund peace, not war

In autumn 2025, we launched a campaign on our social media platforms to highlight the lack of support for peacebuilding. We demonstrated how the exorbitant sums spent on armament could instead be used for peacebuilding measures – particularly for initiatives led by women.
