Increasingly, organisations engaged in peace work are experiencing restrictions on their freedom of speech and assembly, are being squeezed out of the public space, and gagged. Civil society spaces are essential for social interaction and networking. Restricting and criminalising these spaces massively undermines civil forces. What lurks behind this phenomenon of “shrinking civil space”?
