The civil society monitoring of Switzerland's 4th National Action Plan on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on "Women, Peace and Security" reaches another important milestone. Join us for this conference that investigates how care relates to women’s participation and to peacebuilding. Keynote speaker is the Liberian Nobel Peace Prize laureate and peace activist Leymah Gbowee.
UN Security Council Resolution 1325 demands that women participate meaningfully in peace processes and that they are protected from violence in conflicts. The National Action Plan 1325 defines measures for Switzerland's implementation of the resolution. In the current phase, we and our civil society partners have focused on the socio-economic conditions that enable women's participation in peace processes, with a special focus on care work.
At this virtual conference, the culmination of two year’s work, we will look at care’s fundamental contribution to everyone’s sense of security while at the same time representing a major obstacle to women’s participation. We will argue why care should be at the centre of peacebuilding. We will further highlight how Switzerland could achieve the feminist peace vision underlying the Women, Peace and Security agenda, by anchoring it in domestic politics and not only in foreign policy.
