During the current health crisis, in addition to an increase in domestic violence, an increase in gender-based violence in digital spaces has been observed. So, too, in Palestine. Together with the NGO TAM - Women & Media Development, we are now taking action against this phenomenon. Because the internet is one of the spaces in which the safe participation of women must be guaranteed.

UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on "Women, Peace and Security" is considered a milestone, but our work to implement the resolution reveals several points of criticism. Today, on International Women's Day for Peace and Disarmament, the Alliance for Women, Peace and Security launches its report on civil society priorities for the 5th Swiss National Action Plan to implement the Women, Peace and Security agenda. The report contains recommendations from Swiss civil society to make Switzerland – and the world – safer and more peaceful for all people, especially women, girls and queer people.

Social media offer a global platform for the work of activists and their messages. But women who prominently campaign for peace and justice quickly experience an often violent backlash both in virtual and physical spaces. At an event we organised with the Canadian Embassy in Bern on 1 April 2025, Sudanese peace activist and gender expert Rabab Baldo and the Colombian human rights lawyer Luz Marina Monzón Cifuentes spoke about how cyberattacks are part of a broader effort to silence women like them.
