WAR AND PEACE – The role of FINTAs in peace processes
At an event in St. Gallen, our colleague Camille Bernheim and journalist Meral Çiçek explore the question of how FINTAs* can participate in peace negotiations and effectively voice their demands.
Whether as peace activists in the First World War or as partisans and anti-fascist fighters in the Second World War, in women's organisations with diplomatic influence or in local reconciliation initiatives – the contribution of FINTAs was undeniable, but rarely acknowledged.
Today, FINTAs are more frequently represented in peace negotiations and contribute perspectives on issues such as social justice, reconciliation and the needs of the civilian population. Nevertheless, they are marginalised in negotiations – as observers or supporters, not as decision-makers on an equal footing.
With her input, Camille Bernheim will spotlight the role FINTA play and where they exert influence to drive peace processes forward and prevent setbacks.
The event is organised by various women's groups from St. Gallen to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Admission is free. More information on the event.
*FINTA refers to female, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people.
